Here at Celebration Samba, things often get loud - so loud in fact, that we’ve received reports of drumming from 2km away after performances! The leaders, or “mestres”, need to talk to the band when everyone is playing - that’s how they know when to stop, start and change rhythms. The problem starts though when there is more than one rhythm they could be changing into! The solution is to have many, many different names and signals for

all our rhythms. The next time you see us perform, keep your eyes peeled for this one - we use it to indicate a rhythm called “Egyptian Reggae
